Remote and mysterious, Burma has inspired great literature from Kipling to Maugham. Its own history is of course, much more intriguing than fiction and even more magical. Our visit offers a glimpse into a rich Buddhist tradition, an ancient culture and a stunning natural beauty that we think speaks to the quintessential south Asian experience. The country's fascinating scenery includes world-class archaeological sites, vast teakwood forests, mighty rivers, Himalayan mountains and historic architecture.
You begin in Yangon, exotic and striking with its mix of British colonial architecture, Buddhist stupas, Hindu temples, Christian churches and Muslim mosques, all shaded by large, leafy trees. Then "on the road to Mandalay," but by air for us, to visit the magnificent monasteries of the city, and then to Amarapura, the City of Immortality. Next you board the delightful river cruiser to make your way by water to Bagan's incredible Plain of Temples, more like a sea of over two thousand temples stretching into the horizon. Your trip ends at Inle Lake, a magical spot out of time, with pagodas, floating gardens and the genuine hospitality of the hill tribe people.
In case you're wondering, we've travelled to Burma frequently over the last 10 years and discussed current affairs with our friends and colleagues there. They've told us, and we remain convinced, that tourism is a positive force for the Burmese people. |

Our participants say...
...we had the most wonderful time in Myanmar (Burma). Every aspect of the trip went smoothly and we had a truly memorable time there.
...the itinerary, accommodations, restaurants, guide, driver and cars were perfect. Our guide was exceptional in all aspects of the private journey. The inclusion of the visit to the Saunders Weaving Institute was a highlight for me - amongst many highlights. We have wonderful pictures and are having a good time remembering our times there.
